6 Relationship Filters

I was listening to the @heydannymiranda podcast and the guest @justinkan listed out 6 "Relationship Filters" for finding a partner I've never heard. I thought these were very cool and helpful:

These are taken from my Apple Notes doc (so it's verbatim):

Relationship filters from Justin kan:

  • Filter 1: Is this person attractive?

  • Filter 2: Do I want to spend time with this person?

  • Filter 3: Does this person fit in with my friends and social groups and family.

  • Filter 4: Do we have compatible life goals and lives.

  • Filter 5: Is this person gonna be a good partner to build a family.

  • Filter 6: If we grow in our lives will we still be compatible.

  • Each of the next filters rarely have anything in common, so it’s hard to pass all filters.

Key Takeaways

  • Attractiveness and Compatibility: Initial attraction and long-term compatibility are crucial in evaluating a partner.
  • Social and Lifestyle Fit: A partner should fit well with your social circles and share compatible life goals.
  • Family and Growth Potential: Consider if the person would be a good family partner and if you can grow together over time.

Additional Insights

These filters are a great checklist for anyone serious about finding a meaningful relationship. Think of them as stages in a video game—you might not pass all levels with every partner, but they help you gauge who’s worth leveling up with. Consider these filters like trying on clothes: not every item will fit perfectly, but when you find the right one, you just know!
